Chic in the Heat

Some of my all time favorite images are from famed photographer Slim Aarons. His way of "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places" really appeals to my senses.  I love how everyone looks so refreshed and chic while relaxing by the pool or lounging seaside.
I showed my husband the image above of the car in the water and got good chuckle because it looks so much like our family and reminds me of 4th of July last year being stuck in the sound...if only I would have had an umbrella although I can guarantee we didn't nearly look this cool.
You can see more and purchase Aarons images here
They look amazing in a large scale image for your home like the one featured over the mantle in Lonny.

Stay Cool...

Paley's Paradise

Good afternoon, Happy Wednesday to you. How is everyone's week shaping up? Mine seems to be flying by and I have been rather busy around here!
While perusing through my blog roll today I noticed over on India Hicks blog one of my favorite images of socialite Babe Paley at her Round Hill, Jamaica home by the famed photographer Slim Aarons in 1959. Immediately 2 of my favorite mentions so I scrolled through for more information. It seems that India has just returned from a Jamaican mini vaca and that she was able to get her relax on in this iconic home of Paley's.
Unfortunately for me, things don't always stay the same (50+ years) and the groovy house as seen below has been transformed into....

this serene, white, island chic retreat. Don't get me wrong, I would definitely stay here, twist my arm, but I really love the look of Paley's swanky island oasis. What do you think? Would you like to step back in time or do you prefer the new Round Hill, Jamaica home?

Favorites For You

Happy Friday all my friends I am so thankful for this weekend and for a wonderful week. Bittersweet for me it was, my grandfather at the ripe age of 91 left this world for eternal sunshine above.  Although his mind had left us some time ago we celebrated his life and the legacy he left behind.
I was able to spend some much needed time with my grandmother his wife of 66 years and marvel at her strengths, talents, and beauty. When I was growing up and would visit my grandparents the trouble I would get into to was worth the sacrifice for plundering through the house. They were and to date are avid collectors, antique, estate, goodwill, you name it...heaven! I could spend, hours, days, for certain weeks.  My grandmother attends regularly an upholstering class to which she informed me that she was working on an antique sofa! Impressive and so inspiring.
I do love Friday and this Friday I have some new favorites on my list.
Hope you enjoy!

For the best new online read with great recipes, holiday decor and 140 pages of Southern goodness look no further than Southern Flourish.

Tory Burch is mixing and matching this season. I adore the mix of all the texture, pattern, and color.

All I want for Christmas is this vintage Zebra, who doesn't like taxidermy in small doses?

The most beautiful and wonderful smelling flower this time of year...
Paper whites

In the next couple of days you can add some bulbs to a terra cotta pot like this and the paper whites will bloom by Christmas.

A chic book "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places." Slim Aarons the world renowned photographer offers a glimpse into an era where time seems to stand still.

Happy Friday
